Readers traveling to Bangkok this weekend and early next week can expect to see extra security at Sukhumvit area hotels and temporary road closures.
ASEAN Summit meeting is taking place in the city and ends on Monday. Most heads of governments from Asean nations will be in Bangkok. The Thai government has made November 4 and 5 public holiday for civil servants.
I was in Bangkok earlier this week and saw unusual police activity around the Sukhumvit. Police had temporarily stations and was stopping traffic at regular intervals.
Thai police had members stationed at the InterContinental lobby, and they were also installing metal detector gates. They appeared to have a similar set up at the front of the Rosewood.
I would assume that a high number of delegates will stay at the hotels around the Sukhumvit, making getting around the area and to/from hotels challenging at times.
